Metal over the edges of the tip of the ski extend into a full-width sheet in the central portion of the ski. What this does is provide stiffness both longitudinally and torsionally allowing the skier to drive turns using the forebody of the ski with precision and confidence-inspiring edge hold. The metal then tapers into a narrower strip in the tail, still providing stability, but allowing for more torsional flex in that portion of the ski for ease edge release and maneuverability.
